Bargaining Update & Upcoming Events

Barg Update May Day

Dear colleagues,

As the semester wraps up, we would like to take this opportunity to update you on the progress we’ve been making with bargaining and alert you to some upcoming events.  Though the process has been quite slow at times, and the progress not as substantial as we might like, we are proud to be pioneering new ground in establishing the first faculty union contract at Loyola University.

We have made tentative agreements with the administration on most of the non-economic aspects of the contract.  In the near future we hope to address the issues that are most important to you (based on the survey we took last year) that emphasized your priorities; stability, fair wages and equitable workload.

Our progress has been delayed somewhat by the appeal Loyola lodged with the NLRB (National Labor Relations Board), which was later denied for a second time.  We have once again won our right to be a union and make our collective voice heard.

Your involvement in our efforts to negotiate this contract is essential.  There are a number of ways that you can show your support for your union:

  1. Join us on Tuesday, April 25 for the President’s Faculty Reception at Piper Hall from 4-6 PM wearing your “I heart NTT” or “I am NTT” buttons. Buttons will be available at the reception.
  2. Join us for a social at Uncommon Ground in solidarity with the theology faculty on April 27 from 5-7 PM.
  3. Tweet or post to Facebook your NTT selfie or group photo @FacForwardChi and/or #IamNTT
  4. Participate in the upcoming bargaining survey as we seek to incorporate your recommendations for the more economic issues in our contract.

Join with us as we push forward in striving to make social justice a reality at Loyola.

In solidarity,

Your LUC NTT Union Bargaining Team — Paige, Emma, Dave, Deb, Aaron, James, Diane, Adam, Terry and Matt
