11.8.17 NTT Faculty Bargaining Update

A Socially Just Workplace Means Fair Pay & Equal Benefits

“It is all of our responsibility to ensure an increasingly fair, competitive, and socially just workplace.” — President Jo Ann Rooney 9/21/2017

At the end of negotiations on November 8th, we gave Loyola management our initial proposals for increased pay and benefits.  While the management is still arguing about ground rules and trying to restrict Unionized faculty rights, we have put forward proposals on all of our major goals:

  • Creating one faculty
  • Moving past contingency
  • Greater transparency and consistency
  • Progress toward parity in pay and benefits

Our economic proposals aim to achieve the following:

  • Raising the pay of adjunct part-time faculty
  • Creating minimum pay for Lecturers, Advanced Lecturers and Senior Lecturers which raises the lowest paid in each of these job titles
  • Guaranteeing meaningful increases for every Unionized Faculty member every year of the union contract
  • Creating real pay increases associated with promotions
  • Tying pay to length of service at Loyola to reward longevity
  • Expanding eligibility for benefits to more part-time Unionized Faculty Members
  • Making sure NTT Faculty have equal benefits with tenured and tenure-track faculty members

It is now up to the Loyola management and top administrators to uphold their “responsibility to ensure an increasingly fair, competitive, and socially just workplace.”

Our next negotiations are scheduled for:

  • Tuesday November 28th from 9:00 a.m. to noon in Coffey Hall (1st Floor Lounge)
  • Wednesday November 29th from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Norville Athletic Center (Rm 114)

It is important that you attend some of or all of the negotiations so your voice can be heard.
