Union Election Date Set

Yesterday, the Regional Director at the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) decided that a unit of non-tenure-track faculty in the College of Arts and Science can go forward with an election. On Jan. 11, ballots will be mailed to voters by the NLRB. All ballots must be received at the NLRB’s Regional Office in Chicago by Tuesday, Jan. 26. The ballots will be counted the next day.

UChicago faculty overwhelmining vote to form a union

University of Chicago full and part-time non-tenure-track faculty have overwhelmingly voted to join SEIU Local 73 and contingent faculty across the country in a union movement.

The victory marks the first Chicago faculty election as part of the SEIU Faculty Forward campaign to improve their profession and unites over 10,000 instructors who have joined SEIU in the past three years.  Votes for the all-mail ballot election were counted at the Chicago office of the National Labor Relations Board this morning.
